Flotilla Channel Islands

In June 2012, we will organize a flotilla to the Channel Islands and back to Fécamp. The Channel Islands off the coast of Normandy is one of the finest sailing areas in the world. The climate is subtropical and nature with many palm trees and crystal clear water is wonderful. The extremely strong tidal currents, combined with the rocky coast, make the Channel Islands to a very challenging sailing area.

Skippers/delivery

For those who are short of crew (especially during the long crossings) we have a large network of highly experienced sailors that can join you on board.

Preparations days

Before the flotilla starts, we make a extensive planning together. Also we discusses how the ship and crew must be prepared and equipped for the flotilla.

Briefings

Every day we wil be talked over completely during the breefings, so you know what to expect.

This way you will learn in practice:

• working with Nautical books such as the Nautical Almanac including calculating with secundairy ports, computation or rates, the exact interpolation method, etc.

• Dealing with weather maps using radio messages and interpret them and create expectations.

• Tactical sailing, taking into account wind and current, and the local conditions and rules at sea.

• Planning, taking into account ship, crew and weather.

Assistence during sailing

During sailing trips you will be able to ask for assistance using your VHF to the sailing instructor onboard the flotilla ship.

Debriefings

Each trip is evaluated so that we will learn a lot from each other to sail more and more effective and safer.

Ashore

Each participant receives a handout in which for each port is described the best possible activities that you and your family can undertake, such as hiking / biking tours and good restaurants. You could also hookup with the crew of the other flotilla boats. Through sharing experiences with other flotilla skippers this way of sailing is very educational and fun!
